How does a leader become great?

November 3rd, 2020 – Reading time: 4 minutes

“A great person attracts great people and knows how to keep them together.”

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Leaders are defined by the fact that they have followers. But just because you are a supervisor or take on a leadership role does not mean that you automatically enjoy the trust, respect and confidence of your colleagues.

Real leaders have the ability to inspire others. In order for them to do so, people with shared beliefs and similar values are drawn to them, they seek their leadership. Thus, followers are people who voluntarily follow a leader – not because they have to, but because they want to.

As we all know, leaders create themselves. They express their claim to leadership and make the active decision to help and support their colleagues. To lead others is to serve others. True leaders develop exactly this attitude and focus their attention on empowering their environment.

Thus, leaders use their abilities to create an environment of opportunity and freedom. An environment where others learn to develop personally and reach their full personal potential.

But how can a leader achieve greatness?

Leaders are aware of their responsibility for every single aspect of their lives, constantly expanding their sphere of influence and acting proactively. They influence others, act as role models and encourage teams to work closely together to create greater shared value. Leaders make a conscious decision to live a meaningful life. Outstanding leaders adapt to their environment, enable their colleagues to achieve their goals, and empower teams to succeed together. In addition, there are some principles that are important for being able to lead colleagues to excellence.

Passion – Great leaders serve a greater cause

True leadership is determined by an uneven mix of personal humility and a unique will to lead others in the service of a greater cause than oneself. Great leaders are very ambitious and eager to strengthen the team. They see leadership as service to their colleagues, and they have the ability to do whatever is necessary to achieve that very greater cause.

Confidence – Great leaders have confidence in their faith

Great leaders have clarity of purpose and excel in articulating this belief in a cause. Because they believe in their own ideas, they are considered leaders. By being a good communicator, listening to others, giving feedback, setting examples and not giving up, they develop an unparalleled culture. Leadership means being passionate about what you do and having confidence in yourself and your followers, who you inspire through your actions.

Vision – Great leaders inspire their team

Leadership is the ability to turn visions into reality. That is why outstanding leaders have a clear idea of what they want to achieve. They are authentic and courageous, and they have a clear focus that they share with others. Great leaders believe in teamwork and help people achieve their goals. They are looking for talents that are better than themselves and they take pride in the achievements of those they help along the way.

At INVENSITY, we believe that our team of talents has the ability to achieve excellence and inspire others to succeed together. We believe that all or our employees have the ability to become outstanding leaders.

“Real leaders are people who help us do that, to overcome the limits of the own individual: laziness and selfishness and weakness and fear, and make us do better, harder things, than we can do alone.”

David Foster Wallace
