My Internship at INVENSITY

By Katrin Brömer (Visiting Consultant)

“How exactly does a technical business consultancy work?” - this was the question that I pondered during my industrial engineering course at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Although I had previously become familiar with some manufacturing operations and commercial businesses during various internships, I was attracted by the connection between these two areas - the way it is in a technical business consultancy.

I was welcomed into the team right from the very start, and every member of staff is open to questions and very helpful. This gave me the opportunity to get involved in various projects - and the company laptop meant I could get started right away!

Innovations are really “lived” here:

  • the academy offers staff the chance to improve soft skills, methodologies and technical skills in workshops,
  • consultants work closely together in the innovation center to develop and implement new ideas, and
  • in the centers of excellence, best practices and methodologies are developed which are then customized, developed and optimized according to client requirements in the client projects.

At INVENSITY, I got the chance to not only take a look behind the scenes, but also take an active part in working on various projects and topics – this included both technical and business-related topics. For instance, I learned how to carry out an Earned Value Analysis, how to implement risk management in the automotive sector and even learned how to assess the energy balance of a generator. In addition, I had the opportunity to improve my communication skills attending a full-day training course with other INVENSITY consultants. Between and during ongoing tasks, I always received constructive feedback from the relevant supervisor, which helped me significantly to improve my performance.

During my time at INVENSITY, I have learned a lot, both in professional terms and with regard to what good teamwork means. I am now returning to university armed with this new knowledge and, who knows, maybe my job application for a position in the consultant team may soon be landing in INVENSITY’s letterbox...
